I remember it was possible in some older version to do this. I have full RW share access what I can verify with deleting dirs, creating files etc so it is not a Samba issue.

From Vmware Workstation 15.5.6 build-16341506 Linux I always get:

This file is required to power on this virtual machine. If this file was moved, specify the new location.

The file is there and it’s fully accessable and if I copy it over the local machine then the VM works.

Some of the VMs are hundreds of GB in size and I want to run them from the network instead of copying them over.

Any suggestions?
