Discontinue using separate datastore for VM swap files

If a cluster is configured so that VM swap files are stored on a separate datastore – is it possible to reconfigure it so that VM swap files are stored in the Virtual machine directory instead? I need to retire the storage hosting the current swap datastore etc.

I switched the Swap file location to Virtual machine directory ( Cluster / Configure / Configuration / General ), but after a vMotion the use of the separate datastore for swap continues.

What would be the right way to discontinue the use of this separate datastore for VM swap files? and is VM restart avoidable at all?
