VCF 4.0

This post was originally published on this site

HI All,

We are planning to buy VCF, but before we are not sure whether the VCF cloud includes vRealize suite or not ? Any guidance will be much appreciated.

VCF does it contain vRealize Suite or not ? Does the vRealize suite come separately ?

What is the Licensing cost for VCF and how its works ?

vrealize suite  – what are the functionalities it has ?

VM does not reclaim null blocks

VM does not reclaim null blocks

Hello, I have a question regarding vSAN reclaim.

The environment is a CentOS8 VM running on vSAN RAID Level 5.

For disk 1, 40GB of space was allocated to install the OS, and 2TB of Disk 2 was configured as a DATA storage.

Disk 2 consists of a single partition of sdb1, and if you check with “df -h” command, 70GB of space is being used.

Based on vSAN RAID Level 5, it is calculated as 70G * 1.33, so it is expected to use about 93GB of space, but the disk uses about 262GB of VMDK capacity.

So I changed the VMDK’s policy to RAID Level 1, and then reverted it back to the RAID Level 5 policy.

After doing this, the capacity of Disk 2 was reduced to 202GB.

With a question, I cloned the VM and performed the same operation, and the disk capacity of the cloned VM was 129GB.

Could you tell us an example of a situation similar to this one and a solution?

Nsx Controllers Host Name

This post was originally published on this site

hello dear

I’m really confused,

1-Why NSX Controllers Host Names (in each their consoles) are the same (their name is “nsx-controller”)? (when you run Show Hostname in each controller)

2-Why NSX Controller “Host Name” and “Controller Name” (in this path: Networking & Security > Installation and Upgrade > Management > NSX Controller Nodes >    Actions > Change Controller Name) are not same? (Shouldn’t the two be equal?)

3- Which name must be added in DNS server? (Host Name or Controller Name)

New-VM -DiskPath

This post was originally published on this site

I’m trying to deploy a VM in esxi 6.5 and I have an existing vmdk in one of the datastores.

Below is the script I used,

$vmhost = Get-VMHost -Name

New-VM -Name ‘TestVM’ -ResourcePool $vmhost -Datastore ‘datastore1’ -DiskPath ‘[datastore] Testing/Testing.vmdk’

After running the ‘ps1’ file which contains the above script, powershell throws an error as,

PS C:Windowssystem32> C:test.ps1

New-VM : 8/11/2020 12:22:45 PM New-VM The disk path “[datastore] Testing/Testing.vmdk” is invalid.

At C:test.ps1:2 char:1

+ New-VM -Name ‘TestVM’ -ResourcePool $vmhost -Datastore ‘datastore1’ – …

+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    + CategoryInfo          : InvalidArgument: ([datastore] Testing/Testing.vmdk:String) [New-VM], InvalidDatastoreP

    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Client20_VMServiceImpl_TryValidateVmDiskPath_InvalidDiskPath,VMware.VimAutomation.ViCo

Please help me with a proper syntax to deploy a new VM.

Instant clones with App Vol 4 = performance problem

This post was originally published on this site

Hi everyone!

I’m having performance issues with an instant clone environment, DEM Server 9.11, and App. Volumes 4.0. Sometimes users take up to 4:30 minutes to log in. Users who do not have App Writiable configured do not experience slowness on the VM. Is there any documentation that talks about how to improve performance in an environment with App Vol 4? or what tests can be done to detect the bottleneck?

Thank you for your help! Regards!

vSphere license

This post was originally published on this site

Hi everyone!

I need to downgrade the license to 6.X and once the server hardware is upgraded, I need to upgrade back the license to 7.X. Can it be done or does it have a cost?

VMware Knowledge Base

When a new version of a product is released, the older versions are no longer available for purchase. Downgrading a license key allows you to use an older version of a product. If you downgrade a license key, you can revert to the newer version by upgrading the license key. For more information, see How to upgrade license keys in My VMware (2006974).

Many thanks for the help. Regards!
