at VMcom we are considering adding a new backup method that would enable ESXi Free support. It would require SSH access to source hosts and utilize custom rsync tool with SCP failback method for transferring data.

When the backup is done, one could do all the usual stuff: monitor, report, perform file-level restores, etc. In should be even possible to do a “poor man’s replica” to another ESXi Free.

Would you be interested in those features? Would anyone actually pay for a backup solution when using a free hypervisor?
